Submit a Story or Excerpt

Do You Use Windows or Do You Have A Mac?

It does not matter what type of computer or operating system you use to create documents, the results are the same.  Included in your finished document are formatting, font size, alignment, indentations and many other aspects for displaying text and graphics.  You can insert photos and images, resize them and move them around on your page.  You may add video clips and insert links to other sites.

Unfortunately, when you begin to work with websites you discover that there is a different language used on the internet.  It is the language of HTML.  You do not have to know this language, but you do have to use certain procedures so that your story and graphics will properly be displayed on the internet.

Submit a Story   [Submit an Excerpt follows the same guidelines.  Any additional information will appear on the Submit an Excerpt page.]

When you go to Submit a Story in your Control Center, you will be asked to enter specific information about the story.  This is very straightforward. Your pen name is automatically entered.  You will need a story title, rating and from one to three story categories.

You will see the following toolbar above a dialog box:

Information for understanding the toolbar may be found at How To/Toolbar for Stories, Excerpts & Group Messages.

Enter the text for your story.  Format it so that it looks the way you want it to.  It is a good idea to save it as a draft so you can make sure it looks right and is finished before you submit it as a completed story.  You can find information for adding any photos or links you want included in the How To section of the toolbar.

Submit Story or Save as Draft

At the bottom of the Submit a Story page, you will see two choices as shown here.

Clicking on Submit Story makes your story available for public viewing.  A notification will go out to any member who has selected you as a Favorite Author.  The story will have a current posted date.

Often you will not complete a story in one sitting.  When you save your work by clicking on Save as Draft, it will not be available for public viewing. The story will be moved into your Drafts of Stories and will be given a current draft date.  When you want to work on it again, go to your Control Center and click on All My Stories.  At the top of the stories column you will find three headings.

Select Show Drafts of Stories.  A list of your drafts will appear.

Click on Edit next to a story title in your My Story Drafts .  Make any changes or corrections to the story.

Edit Stories That Have Already Been Posted

When you go to your list of stories in your Control Center, you will see two options:  Edit and Delete.  Edit allows you to make changes to stories that have already been posted for public reading.

After making your changes, click on Submit to re-post the corrected story.  If you click on Draft and Submit, the story will not be available for public reading but will once again show as a draft.

Positioning Stories

Each story or excerpt has a posted date and an edit date, if applicable.  This is shown above for the Another Form of Creativity story.  The default setting is that stories will be listed with the most current submitted or edited date on top.  Every time a story is edited or a new story is submitted, the list will rearrange itself.  I have several stories that I want to always appear first.  I have other stories that I want to always appear together.  We have included an option that appears for each story on it’s submission page.  The positioning ranking goes from #1 at top through #100.  Select the position number you want for each of your submissions.

If more than one story has the same positioning number, then they will be grouped together but ordered with the most recent date first.  I used numbers 1 – 5 for the five stories I want to appear first in my preferred order.  I use # 99 for a grouping of stories called The Music of My Life. Use my system or develop one for yourself.  If you want to change the position of the story, just click on edit and make your change.

Notification of a New Story

When you initially submit a story, everyone who has chosen you as a Favorite Author will receive notification that you have posted a new story.  This notification only goes out once.  Members are not notified when you make edits or save the story as a draft.  You may remove a story from the public list by editing and saving it again as a draft.  No notifications are sent when you republish a story.
