Links to interesting websites or to additional information on terms you use can enhance your story. For example:
- In the About Us section of our home page I make reference to several websites that provide information on internet safety. In those situations I show the actual link addresses.
- Also in About Us, the first time I use the term blog, I provide a link to Wikipedia that gives more information about blogs. In this situation I embed the link in the word blog.
- Throughout my stories I provide links that enhance what I am describing. I use both methods described in #s 1 & 2.
- Links are evident because the word or phrase is underlined. That is why we do not provide underlining for other formatting options.
Here is how to embed a link into a word or phrase.
Highlight a word or phrase, The chain and broken chain both will show on the tool bar. Click the chain and a box opens. Type or paste the link code in the Link URL box. Review it to make sure the http:// does not show twice. Open the Target box and select Open in new window. Click insert. After you save your story as a draft, reopen it and test the links. If they do not work properly, redo them.
Broken Chain … Highlight text that contains a link and click the broken chain. This removes any links from the text.
Test the link … After the page is saved, go back into it and click on the link. Here is what you would see based on the link in the box above.
